Financial services giant AMP surged 19 cents or nearly three per cent to $7.20.
Telstra shares were one cent stronger at $4.15 at 1046 AEST with Optus parent SingTelalso increasing one cent to $1.33.
In the resource sector, BHP Billiton was up 22 cents or more than two per cent at $9.41at 1051 AEST.
Rio Tinto added 89 cents at $32.15 while Woodside Petroleum gained three cents to $10.59.
