Fed: Truss denies insider trading over beef

Agriculture Minister WARREN TRUSS says there is no evidence to support claims some
beef exporters knew about a European Union beef quota policy change before others.

A Senate report tabled in parliament yesterday said some people in the industry may
have had unfair commercial advantage from prior knowledge of the minister's decision.

But today Mr TRUSS says there is no evidence to support that conclusion.

He says there could not have been any insider trading on the basis of his decision
because he only made it at four o'clock one afternoon and it was announced the next morning.





The report found there was clear evidence that an Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Australia minute, which was not marked as confidential, offered commercial advantage to
certain exporters.
